In answer to your question about Krugman:
1. Perhaps he learned to write the way many of us did: by practicing a lot!
2. Krugman is an excellent writer but I think this is because he has a lot to say. I wouldn’t call him an excellent writer in the way that, say, Michael Lewis is. What Krugman has to offer is some important ideas and the desire to promulgate these ideas.
